With a background in Melbourne’s live Hip Hop and RnB scene, Nadav Rayman introduces his first solo composition project, arranged for an acoustic trio with collaborators Michael Evans-Barker (Drums) and Matthew Coleman (Bass).
The album draws on Nadav’s personal influences with hints throughout of Bad Bad Not Good, The Bad Plus, Robert Glasper, PJ Morton, Alpha Mist, Jordan Rakei, Beachhouse, Sparklehorse as well artists associated with the 70’s NY-based Strata East label.
Inspired by a week of dreams, each ending with a whispered premonition (specifically the subject of the title track), Second Sight charts the experiences of betrayal, loss and renewal.
Nominated The Australian Music Prize 2022, one judge described the album as: “Shapeshifting and soulful instrumental jazz from a Melbourne trio that cop influence from teh worlds of hip-hop and r&b. One minute light and delicate, the next, cinematic and dramatic, this is an outfit stretching out musically, while still remaining remarkably accessible”.
The Nadav Rayman Trio is a collaboration of Nadav Rayman (Piano), Matthew Coleman (Bass) and Michael Evans-Barker (Drums) exploring contemporary soul jazz.
